App Crashing (Permissions Issue?)

Android 16 - Pixel 8 Pro

I built and installed the app, and got the termux scripts working, but then ran into issues. When scanning an NFC tag with the app, or pressing the "Read Tag" button, the app would crash immediately, with the termux script also complaining that NFC needed to be enabled in the system settings (which it already was).

I tried restarting the device and reinstalling each part, but same issue. The app also says "No permissions requested" in the app info screen for it, I would expect to see storage here at least, I don't know if NFC would show up there too, but nothing was there.

It was made for android versions; 6-13. But now might work properly on your google pixel 8 pro(version 16)...

But, because of android 16 being newer its still receiving updates so i can not fully make this supportable on it till android 18 comes out. (Because of future security implementations)

Same issue on Android 13. The app crashes right after pressing Read Tag, read a NFC tag (little app notification: Card ... saved Successfully) and pressing Back. Termux says NFC: DISABLED or UNKNOWN, but NFC is enabled in system settings. The app info also shows No permissions requested, even with the latest version of the script and app.

Also tried running the methods from the code directly but got permission errors or missing commands.

@Lolig4 Thanks for letting me know, unfortunate this issue should be fixed, I have fully updated the entire repo to solve this major issue. Im keeping this issue open for logging reasons

The cards also don't get saved even though it says Card ... saved successfully, Maybe use MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, because the other two permissions (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) are deprecated.
Also, can you upload an app logo to the repository? It's required for building the app, and I used your profile picture in the android_setup.sh script (mentioned in the "How to build the app" issue), because I wasn't sure what else to use.

You're absolutely right about the storage permissions issue. I've updated the code to fix the card saving problem:

Key Changes:

• AndroidManifest.xml - Added MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission and removed deprecated storage permissions
• MainActivity.java - New permission request flow for modern Android versions
• NFCReaderActivity.java - Smart storage location selection with multiple fallbacks
