It is not clear if the unexpected discrepancy will lead to exception (perfectly ok) or downright memory corruption. It'd be good to have it defined.

Since this is C#, memory corruption won't occur, but it depends on the improper modifications.
In the case of small numbers, the data cannot be decompressed properly, so an exception will be thrown.
Normally, attackers would aim to destroy the server, so they would use large numbers. In that case, an exception will also be thrown (after checking the final size), but it will result in massive unnecessary memory allocations, and the GC won't be able to keep up, leading to a denial of service.
I'll think about the wording for the ReadMe.
