Steps to reproduce the bug

1. Open the app
2. Select any conversation
3. Write a message
4. Long press the send button
5. Select a date and time (e.g Tomorrow 9 AM)
6. Confirm
7. Wait until the selected date and time passes

Expected behavior

The message sends at the selected date and time.

Actual behavior

The scheduled message dissapears, but no message has been sent.

A few more info that could be related :

• Context for my report : Yesterday evening, I scheduled an SMS for the morning after.
• At 3 AM, the phone automatically restarts.
• I use Modes and Routines, and Sleep mode is set to prevent the use of this app.

Like I said in my original post, I wrote the message at 8 PM and scheduled it for tomorrow 9 AM
Right now I scheduled a message for 10min later, let's see how it goes

It was closed, but I have turned off battery optimization for Messages.

How far into the future was the message scheduled?

Around 2h.

What's more, it's a bit random for me, that's why I haven't reported it earlier. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it sends after opening the app again (e.g., I had set sending to 7 PM, opened the app at 8 PM, and the SMS was sent at 8 PM), and sometimes it loses messages like described here. Every time it was an SMS message, not MMS.

Yeah, looking at the code, it could fail even without a reboot in a couple of cases.

• App was updated
• App was stopped, or manually force-stopped
• There's a mistake/oversight in the code that runs at the scheduled time, which might cause the system to stop it before it's done sending the message. This will occur intermittently.
• Device rebooted (the obvious case)

Not much can be done about the second point.

A scheduled message is also dropped on app open if the scheduled 'alarm' time is delayed by the system for whatever reason. I'm thinking it should still send for short delays, but provide feedback for longer delays (hours late).
