Default Newsfeed Module Doesn't Handle Authentication with NY Times

When I send the show full article notification to the default newsfeed module, it used to display a full screen article text, but now it displays a captcha. I have a NY times account but I don't know how the newsfeed module can be configured with my credentials so it will log in and be able to show the full article text once again.

We have only one default module which can handle authentication and this is calendar.

There is no authentication for the newsfeed module and AFAIS there is no easy way to implement this.

Main problem in the newsfeed module is the 2 step approach.

1. you provide the feed url (which needs no auth)
2. we grab the article url from the feed which (maybe) needs auth

You could try the default approach to add username and password in the url, e.g. changing https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/HomePage.xml to https://username:password@rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/HomePage.xml (if your username contains a @ you must replace it with %40).

But this would be an auth of the feed url, not of the article url. There is no code which patches the article url with username/password which is (maybe) provided in the feed url.

Next thing is if the provider allows authentication with username/password in the url for security reasons. Or authentication is needed as part of the headers of the fetch statement. Or ...
