How to configure OOM killer?

I would like to configure the task killer. Lots of websites tell me to modify /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree, but that file does not exist on my device. I hoped I could do it with this mod. Is this possible? If yes, what are the names of the props I need to edit?

I tried writing "1" into /proc/sys/vm/oom_kill_allocating_task and not even that helped, so I doubt my problems are low memory killer related, but it would still be nice to know how to do this.
