Query parameters improved for ADC homepage #2747

Nicole and I are in the midst of updating the ADC homepage and plan to add new features and widgets to make the user experience better. We want to add a "Data by Discipline" scrollable bar which will feature different icons that you can click and it'll take you to the datasets within that discipline. The image below shows our mockup of that feature.

Robyn noted this kind of request would need better query parameters to create a link or some direction that would take the user straight to the catalog and display all of the datasets within that discipline.
Since this could take longer than expected alongside other priorities on MetacatUI, Robyn noted the interim solution is to create portals featuring datasets within a discipline. So, the intention would be there is a separate portal for each discipline like cryology, plant science, education, etc. and those would be links to hyperlink the icons in the scrollable bar to direct users to that data.
Presumably, if this request feature is accepted and completed then we would get rid of those temporary portals.
