Overview
Wisconsin Works (W-2) is Wisconsin's implementation of the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. W-2 provides cash assistance through placement-based employment services to low-income families with children.
Requirements
Eligibility Rules
- Gross income ≤ 115% of Federal Poverty Level
- Resources ≤ $2,500 (with $10,000 vehicle exclusion)
- Must have eligible dependent child (federal TANF requirement)
- Citizenship/immigration status check
Income Calculation
- Earned income: Employment + self-employment
- Unearned income: All unearned sources
- Child support disregard: Fully excluded
Benefit Calculation
benefit = placement_amount[placement_type]
- Placement-based flat payments (not income-adjusted)
- Automatic placement detection for CMC and ARP
