Export referenced components

Just curious if it's technically possible to export references of components rather than the actual thing.
For example if I have a file with 1000 image components, I then make a separate file and a frame that contains a subset of these images but linked to the main components, is it possible to export those?

You can. I think you have to make them a component in the subset file.
