Permission problem: storage access is required, but impossible to give from android settings

Been using the app for years, and recently updated it to version 6.1.2 from Google Play (my phone is a Motorola Razr with android 11).

The app became unable to reach my files, saying Permissions required - This app requires storage access and notification permission. Please grant permission manually in the settings
However, once inside the app settings, the permissions option is disabled and it says "no permissions requested".
