Measuring dumb spotlights #3455
-
New user here. I have several dumb spotlights around the house that I would like measured. This is more of a wiring/electrical question. Some are attached to smart dimmer, and some to smart switches. I understand the proper way would be to measure the combination, so it includes the switch/dimmer energy. But I'm not really that interested, since that will be very small, compared to the light energy. And I really would like to avoid opening my switches (some gave me trouble when I installed them). Is it possible for me to measure a single one of the spotlights using a Shelly PM Mini Gen3? How would I have to connect it? It's way easier for me to take out a single spotlight than it is the smart switches. Then with a single spotlight measurement, I can extrapolate for each room as they're all the same. I understand I'll be missing switches and dimmer energy, but I'm ok with that. Thanks!! |

Yes shelly PM mini gen3 would be perfectly suitable. Here is the wiring schema: You connect it in series, either before the smart switch / dimmer or after. When you connect it before the smart switch you live wire (brown) in the L on the PM mini, When you want to only measure the bulb you connect it in series after the smart switch. So between the switch and the light. |

and the O goes to the dimmer where the brown wire is now. Run a short new wire there.

In that case it's probably a black wire (in Netherlands it is) and you connect that to O on the PM mini (that goes to the …
