Xfce #5
Description
It might be a good idea to make Xfce the base of this project. We use many components of Xfce already, so it should be painless to do so. In addtion, Xfce comes with NetworkManager as well (see #4).
Here is a post showing how to replace xfwm4 with i3wm: http://feeblenerd.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/pretty-i3-with-xfce.html We will also need to disable xfdesktop and xfce4-panel as well.
