Description
Is your feature request related to a problem?
Content should be as consistent as possible throughout the pages. This issue is related to the lack of consistency on hyperlinks between 12 EPUB 3-related pages. Some links are also broken and need adjustments.
Describe the solution you'd like
Embed all URLs within a descriptive and identifiable text of what that link is.
E.g.:
Source: WCAG Guideline 2.4 – Navigable.
Instead of:
Source: https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/#navigable
All suggested links are described below.
Describe alternative solutions you've considered
Upon checking current URLs, I've come across some with broken links. I suggested some replacements or complete deletion, but it might be good to do a full content checkup.
Additional context or notes
Identified links that I suggest a change:
-
Semantic Markup in EPUB 3 page
- DELETE “The EPUB 3 Content Document article by Matt Garrish is a great place to start learning about semantics in EPUB 3: http://epubzone.org/news/epub-3-content-documents ”. NOTE: broken URL. Didn’t find any replacement for it.
-
- CHANGE “See: Poet Image Description Tool at http://diagramcenter.org/development/poet.html.” to “See: Poet Image Description Tool at Diagram Center.”
-
- CHANGE “W3C's http://validator.w3.org/ can help identify invalid UTF-8 characters.” to “W3C’s Validator can help identify invalid UTF-8 characters.”
-
- CHANGE “To encode math and math notations, we will be using MathML 3.0 which is a W3C specification (Link: W3C Math Home) […]” to “To encode math and math notations, we will be using MathML 3.0 which is a W3C specification […]”.
- CHANGE “Try MathMLCloud at https://www.mathmlcloud.org/” to “Try MathML Cloud.”. NOTE: REPLACE current URL with this link from GitHub. Old URL showed a message that the company would no longer maintain MathML Cloud.
-
- CHANGE “Source: http://www.idpf.org/accessibility/guidelines/content/meta/schema.org.php” to “Source: Daisy”. NOTE: current URL is broken and is redirected to this link. REPLACE with the link from Daisy. There is a close code example on “Metadata > Schema.org”. I suggest updating the example given on the article to match the source.
-
- CHANGE “Readium for Chrome browswer - http://readium.org/” to “Readium for Chrome browser”. NOTE: there is a “browser” typo on the original text.
- CHANGE “iBooks for Mac OS X and iOS - https://www.apple.com/ca/ibooks/” to “iBooks for Mac OS X and iOS”.
- CHANGE “Lucifox for Firefox browser - http://lucidor.org/lucifox/” to “Lucifox for Firefox browser”.
- CHANGE “Calibre for Mac OS X and Windows - http://calibre-ebook.com/” to “Calibre for Mac OS X and Windows”.
- DELETE “Universal Book Reader for Android - http://www.mobisystems.com/android/ub-reader/”. NOTE: broken URL. Product seems to no longer exists or to be supported by the company.
- CHANGE “NVDA for Windows - http://www.nvaccess.org/” to “NVDA for Windows”.
- DELETE “Online validator: http://validator.idpf.org/ (maximum 10MB)”. NOTE: broken URL. REPLACE with “EPUBCheck by W3C”.
- CHANGE “Locally-run validator: http://validator.idpf.org/” to “Locally-run EPUBCheck validator”. NOTE: please check if I’m right on the assumption that this GitHub link can be a locally-run epubcheck validator.
-
- CHANGE “In creating this exemplar, Pandoc (link: http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/) was initially used to create an EPUB from HTML files” to “In creating this exemplar, Pandoc was initially used to create an EPUB from HTML files.”.
- CHANGE “Online demo: http://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/forces-and-motion-basics/latest/forces-and-motion-basics_en.html” to “Online demo.”.
