Unable to click the embedded inspector within specific width range

Sometimes after a long coding session, the inspector becomes unclickable with a specific width range that starts from the right side.

In this screenshot, the highlighted area is not clickable; you have to expand the width of the window to make ONLY the expanded left side clickable.

This has been happening for years, but I have consistently forgotten to report this issue. I'm trying to identify the pattern of this behavior and will report back once I have made progress.

You mean that a certain width range is not clickable? (Not that this only happens when inspector is narrow?)

Do you know how to open the inspector of the embedded browser? Ctrl + J on mac when you click on the DevTools pane. Though from your description it sounds like a swing UI issue.

Update: I was able to see this again. So I've opened the DevTools, and the element seems correctly placed.

When I placed the mouse over one of widgets, it correcly shows the hover effect and later show the info overlay:

Only the toolbar is unresponsive with mouse events (no cursor changes, no hover effects, unable to click):

(Also, unrelated to this issue, the font size seems to be unexpectly changed to be larger than normal.)

With the above observation, I think the issue might not related to the browser engine but the DevTools itself.

@elliette Is this something you may acknowledged of? How could I debugging more if I can run into this again?

Hmm this sounds tough to debug. Even if the element is in the right place, I wonder if there could be some swing component blocking the area you can't click? I don't understand Java UI tooling very well, but it looks like there's also a Swing inspector we could try:

Hi @AlexV525! Regarding the toolbar being unresponsive to clicks, that was fixed in flutter/devtools#9327 (fix currently on Flutter beta, and will be in the next stable.)

I believe the initial issue description (about DevTools being unclickable for a certain width) is more likely an issue with the embedded browser, especially if you can't reproduce it outside of Android Studio/IntelliJ.

I guess that is the exact problem I'm facing. Thanks for the fix! I'll keep this ticket open until I can surely confirm it works.
