Projects mode problem with AI model selection in Project setup.

Describe how to reproduce

This is the new Copilot projects option, it exactly what I've been looking for, if we can get the right model selected.

• Enable Copilot plugin
• Change from Chat to Projects (alpha)
• Create a new project
• Attempt to choose a default model

Problem: Only a handful of models available.

Within copilot there are many models, I have filtered down to the ones we use.

Documentation says to try refreshing built in models, which I do (it changes my setup and names for models)
NOTE: I have API keys for GPT and Anthropic input, nothing else

After refresh I get a few more models, none of them are the Anthropic / Claude options I'm looking for.
NOTE: the name of the models are different here to in the config screen.

Choosing a default model gives some unknown errors

Now I start a chat with the project I've setup.

NOTE: I can't change the model in the chat, its fixed on GPT 4.1 with no dropdown to change it.
So, I'm stuck with a single model, and that model is named differently to the default model in the project setup.

Expected behavior
A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.

I expect to

1. be able to choose from the list of ALL available models OR ALL the models that I have entered API key details for and setup properly.
2. Be able to setup the models in the copilot configuration, with nice names etc and be able to select the model I want to use.

Hi, thanks for trying out the project mode.

The reason why we did not put all the models in project mode is twofold:

• Project mode is still in ALPHA phas
• (main reason) project mode needs a lot to token to work with. Right now only OPENAI and gemini models work well

Thanks for trying to protect me from myself.
However, I have a specific Claude based use case that project mode is perfect for, even if it costs a bit to run.
I appreciate its an ALHPA feature and I understand the risks (at least I think I do).
If your looking for a serious real life workout for Project mode, then I'm happy to be the crash test dummy.
Just put big warnings above the model selection box so everyone knows the risks.
