Cycle2 prev/next function not working for me

Hi!

I am very much a beginner, so please bear with me–

I am trying to add prev/next controls to my cycle2 slideshow, but when I follow the instructions on the Cycle2 page it simply does not work (I am trying the "simple"/first option on this page -- https://jquery.malsup.com/cycle2/demo/prevnext.php). The basic slideshow only seems to work if I remove the "data-cycle-timeout=0", and the prev/next controls still don't work.

Is there a jQuery step that was not referenced on the website because it is obvious to more advanced coders? Or are the instructions lacking/outdated?

I have a couple slideshows I have here in source code that use previous/next feature -- I will try to upload code snippets shortly that might help.

Are the snippets you mentioned updates to the code shown on the official cycle2 page? I'm still not sure whether the prev/next controls aren't working because I made a mistake or if the instructions on the cycle2 page are simply outdated.
