MacOS does not detect serial number.

I have a device that gives me a serial number on Android, and when I use JavaDoesUsb on Windows, it provides a serial number, but on Macs, it is null. I am unsure how to help with this bug since I can't send you the device.

I checked my computer and some devices do give serial numbers on MacOS. Most have null.

On macOS, this library relies on the operating system to get the serial number. So if macOS does not provide it, the library won't either.

Does macOS (as seen in the System Information app) have a serial number for a device and this library does not? Or does it correspond?

For USB device, the serial number is supposed to be a Unicode string. Unfortunately, some devices (e.g. old ST-Link adapters) just return random binary data that is not a valid Unicode string. Different operating system handles these cases outside the USB specification differently. What device do you have issues with?

Thank you for the thorough answer. I assume it is because my device is old, but thanks for giving me the tools I need to know it is not a bug. MacOS is not reporting much about this particular device.
