Add support for GIF images
It would be really cool to have animated backgrounds, for example. In addition to several other possibilities.

This would also allow for animated grid images, which would be interesting, although I am not sure if this isn't already supported, since QTQuick has support for it...

Yes, if you mean GIF support in themes, that should work already. Note that you have to use the AnimatedImage QML Type to animate them.

If you mean GIF support for games, ie. autodetect GIF assets for games, that can be added, but 1) whether it's animated depends on the theme, and most will show a static image, and 2) more frames mean more memory usage. Let me know what's your use case exactly.

Sidenote, but if you just need animated backgrounds, you can use video files, which should be smaller and faster anyway.

The usecase I am thinking off is animated banners/boxart for games, for instance, having Plok's banner being it's intro. There are probably more use cases for something akin to my idea, but I can't think of many...

Probably, and either way, the background is controlled by the theme to begin with.
