Hang on very long document

Today I was editing a markdown text file and then switched to a tab containing an extremely long, non-markdown text file. This has caused Notepad++ to hang.

After about an hour it rendered.

OK, so, the workaround to this for me going to the plugin "options" and entering "md" as the allowed file extension to disable this for the other document, which is a txt. But the original problem remains.
