No new Variants are generated after replacing a file

No new Variants are generated after replacing a file - is this a bug or does it have something to do with our setup?

Hello :)

We are running a Craft 4 setup with ImageOptimize (4.0.5) and remote assets in a Google Cloud Bucket (via Google Cloud Storage plugin 2.0.0). The specs are as follows:

We keep experiencing the problem that no new image variants are generated after replacing a file via the Craft CMS interface. IT does not happen all the time, but often enough.

Is there anything we can do to fix this? Or is it maybe a bug? Or just a very unlucky combination of setup components?

Any piece of advice would be very much appreciated :)

This is what happens:

1. Upload image → Variants are generated
   

2. Replace file → File is replaced, but new variants are not generated
