Hi,

ocenv is an incredibly opinionated way to manage the shell environment, and it is not to everyones liking :-)

However, if you choose not to use it the generated profiles does not really work. I assume they are meant to set the environment for a specific database but it does not. For instance ORACLE_SID becomes empty.

I think it is a bug not to have a working alternative to ocenv.

It's not really a bug. 'ocenv' replaced the old broken profile scripts.

I only use ocenv, because it has so much flexibility with lots of other advantages and it is free to use.

Right, I'm sure ocenv is fine - but it is highly opinionated. (I'm not a fan of the multiple line prompt for instance)

But since there is an option not to use it (deploy_ocenv: false), and that only leaves you with broken profiles I'd argue that it IS a bug :-)

I removed the .profile in the past and #285 introduced the switch to disable ocenv to use an own custom solution.
The reenabled the broken .profile...

I prefer to remove the whole broken stuff, because the needed work to fix it is not worth the time, but iI someone creates a PR for the bug, I'll merge that into master.
