[Task] Expand Unit Tests

Task Description
The plugin is currently lacking in unit tests, specifically for the core module. It would be nice to expand the unit tests suite.

Deliverable(s)
New unit tests to cover the handful of features that the plugin provides.

Additional Context
The unit tests in the core project and the input validator plugin might be good references.
