Subtitles & Closed Captions

Hi
I want to add some subtitles to my content. Do you happen to have any idea what languages I can use?
In the channel feed manager, I saw a lot of languages, but are all those supported?

I can't guarantee the languages that are supported. But, I would assume that all of the languages listed in CFM are supported since the software was built using the JSON Feed Spec.

From personal experience, I've tested a channel with a French to English subtitle.

I'm a bit confused. The title of the discussion refers to Subtitles/Captions which refers to an option in video playback. The links you posted refer to supporting different fonts for text display.

Roku OS doesn't ship with a Hindi font, so you'd have to include that in your application package or download it into /tmp at runtime. That also means you can't use Hindi characters in your subtitle/closed captioning.

Are you trying to change the text of the channel, or, support closed captioning/subtitles? This discussion implies you are trying to support closed captioning/subtitles for you video content. That discussion you refer to is talking about changing the text font for words that appear on the users channel.

I just try to "display" subtitles in other than Latin language - like Japanese - Chinese so on .... but that can't be done unless the font used is changed - the default Roku font used to display subtitles doesn't support those types of languages

The caption fonts we supply support the glyphs from these languages:

I might be confused by all these terms, but for me, is sounds like roku only supports some languages - we need to "make it" support other languages :)
It sohuld be the same "logic" if the text is used on the channel itself as I dont know video titles, etc or for any other text displayed on the Roku device

Sorry, but, again you're mixing apples and oranges. The above post from Slack refers to using "closed captioning"/subtitles on the Roku device while a video is playing. For example, if the user is watching a video that uses English, he may use his Roku device to select an different language to translate what is being said and show it on the bottom of the screen in the selected language.

Otherwise, some users want the ability to change the text that displays on their channel screens to support local languages. For example, say your channel uses the word "me" on a screen. If you plan to offer that channel in France, you would need to use a font that supports the French language so that the word "me" now shows as "moi".

I'm still not sure what you're looking for....
