There is a recent call from @story645 for matplotlib blog posts and given that it asks for

Have you built a cool visualization or tool? Are we an important part of your work? Use a less documented part of the library & want to teach folks how?

I think that a third party library like mplhep that helped bring stairs to matplotlib would be a good candidate. :)
