Is this the reason that this project crashes on 101.0?
silentwings's fork of this project does not crash, but has unit spawning at start(game_spawn.lua) removed:

idk, maybe. as you describe it, it seems that the start unit makes spring crash.

/cheat
/give [name of start unit]

should make it crash, too
