Comparison against python 3

• Exactly what it says on the tin. I don't expect tremendous differences in performance but have been surprised before with 2/3.
• May be worth extending the benchmark utility slightly to add a simple bash script that collects the appropriate outputs, so multiple terminal windows are not needed.
