the tailwinds at-rules error

I made an vite react app with js and installed tailwindcss and postcss it has done smoothly with no error i also checked both config file and json file . nothing is broken BUT when I add these in index.css
@tailwind base;
@tailwind components;
@tailwind utilities;
it is throwing unknown at-rule error
how to fix it

If you are using VSCode, you could look at installing the Tailwind CSS IntelliSense VSCode plugin and then:

files.associations

Use the files.associations setting to tell VS Code to always open .css files in Tailwind CSS mode:

}

Otherwise, you could set css.lint.unknownAtRules VSCode setting to ignore.

I think I have to mention about unknownAtRules that it's better not to use it, because (unless you feel confident that you won't have any issues with TailwindCSS syntax without assistance):

TailwindCSS provides the necessary rule definitions to VSCode through its official extension.

If you follow the advice to disable warnings about unknown rules, then VSCode truly won't alert you - even when a directive doesn't actually exist in CSS or TailwindCSS. So either you know everything by heart, or you won't understand why, for example, @themes doesn't work - because only @theme actually exists, etc.

So, I absolutely agree with the first piece of advice, and just make sure to configure the VSCode plugin properly.

it's not a tailwind error, it's a vscode thing.

vscode's css checker doesn't know the @tailwind rule, so it complains.

the real fix is to install the tailwind css intellisense plugin. it makes vscode understand the syntax and gives you autocomplete.

or if u dont wanna do that, just turn off the error in your vscode settings.json:

"css.lint.unknownAtRules": "ignore"

just install the plugin tho, it's way better.

It's important to note that the VSCode plugin is essential:

• Tailwind CSS v4 - Unknown at rule @plugin, @custom-variant, @theme, @utility, @variant, @apply, @source, @reference in global.css
• Displaying color boxes next to the TailwindCSS class names indicating the color, anywhere such as in class or className attributes

But starting from v4, you don't even need @tailwind anymore:

• Removed @tailwind directives
• What's breaking changes from v4?
