Web Doc Contribution Workshops

I think it would be beneficial to host a series of workshops for spec authors (& others) who want to contribute to web documentation i.e. MDN.

The workshop idea is great - for folks who want to contribute. And it could even be helpful for folks who don't want to contribute directly, but just want to share their experience or pain points.

A related angle to consider: I think our biggest disconnect is with developers. If we can feed into our docs more real-world usage–like what obstacles or blockers they hit when adopting a feature (and as a result don't use it) or what issues or edge cases they've come across while using a feature–that would really help to improve and strengthen our docs.

We almost need dev champions. The documentation is ultimately developer facing, so I think we need to be tapping into that audience more actively.

Another idea (and workshops can help with that) could be to partner with companies that have strong frontend teams - they would have devs working closely with browser features and specs. If we frame it as a way to improve docs that their own teams rely on, that might provide a good value exchange/incentive for them (not to mention giving them a chance to build a good reputation for supporting the open web and developer education).

I can share a great example of the kind of insight and relationship we're looking for: this developer-initiated proposal to update the :has() selector docs has come out of real-world usage, and it will help in adding performance guidance we didn’t have before.
