this pull request fixes the bug described in a comment in bug report #463
A very hard one to trigger...
The solution was inspired from this page.
Note that my first idea to backport some changes included in another pull request I've recently sent (Initial vue 3 support) was ultimately not applicable here.
This pull request also fixes some minor eslint warnings.
