Introduction

Hi, Here on this page we are listing all tricks I learned or found after multiple googling for some topic in free CAD, which I found not available in the mainstream at the time of recording same in this wiki page...

How to Copy existing sketch to a new datum plane

This topic I do search multiple but did not ant a direct solution... one I found is very interesting... Please note that I am using FreeCAD 0.19 version, Sorry not sure whether the same will work on older versions...

Copy-paste creates the new sketch outside of the Body. "Duplicate selected objects" creates it inside. Its Sketcher CarbonCopy, for detail please visit Free CAD wiki:- https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Sketcher_CarbonCopy

  1. Select the datum plane and create a new empty sketch

  2. While still in sketch editing mode, switch back to the Model tab and hide the datum plane and any padding ( is present, just for a clear view) from view Press the Carbon Copy Image tool image

  3. If the new sketch plane is not parallel to the original sketch, press Ctrl + Alt then click on an edge from the original sketch

  4. The original sketch geometry is copied into the new sketch along with all constraints; dimensional constraints are linked to the original sketch's constraints.

  5. If the new sketch plane is parallel to the original sketch, press Ctrl then click on an edge from the original sketch
