A "lift" is a bin with a baseplate on top so that any other bins can stack on top. I.e., even a 1×1 on top of a 2×2.
This solves two of my few unmet needs for GF bins:
If I need to mix multiple heights of bins, but want to keep the tops level; I can put a "lift" to take up that difference in height underneath the shorter bins. Essentially this allows for "lifting" the base of the bins rather than dropping the top.
If I have a bin that holds an object, but removing the object requires the bin sides to be low. (As an example, https://www.printables.com/model/936256-opus-bt-c3100-battery-charger-gridfinity-container) but I still want to stack on top of that bin. I can print a "hollow lift" that will stack, but only around the edges, and still provide baseplate-like top surface. This lift stacks like any other bin and so can be easily removed for access underneath.
I am quite inexperienced with the current toolset of GF-rebuilt, so it is very likely that I have done things inefficiently or incorrectly. Any help, guidance, or advice is appreciated.
Everything should be relatively standard up until gridfinity-rebuilt-lift.scad:110, and changes from a normal bin should be well documented.
(Lifts were originally just designed for case 2 and so called "bridges")
