By using the plus symbol a list options to auto complete will show.

unclear why enter triggers command run but on click does not.
User can choose to have the autocomplete feature on in the SCM input textbox.

Description
Using the plus
+symbol in the SCM textbox a list of co-authors will show that can be filtered to auto-complete and select the co-author.This provides a quicker and more keyboard-accessible way to add co-authors to commit messages.
The feature can be enabled/disabled in vscode settings.
