This PR proposes changes to the Springer Nature Link VPAT. The changes include moving to WCAG 2.2 AA as the standard of conformance, and new remarks and explanations of conformance levels based on the most recent testing results. A representative sample of 23 pages across the product. Key changes proposed are summarised next.

New WCAG 2.2 criteria to look at (these include new wording and I'd like your thoughts on whether it is readable and understandable for a lay audience):

  • 3.2.6 Consistent Help (A)
  • 3.3.7 Redundant Entry (A)
  • 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) (AA)
  • 2.5.7 Dragging Movements (AA)
  • 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) (AA)
  • 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum) (AA)

References to the old design on Link have been amended to:

  • either remove them altogether if all issues referenced no longer exist,
  • or remove select issues that no longer exist,
  • and to indicate that all pages in the product are now in the new design, except for A-Z index pages. This should apply to all criteria that reference the old design.

I have also proposed changes on the conformance level for 14 criteria. Any commits for a criterion that has changed conformance level includes a description stating this. I'd be grateful if you could pay special attention to these, and I welcome any comments and suggestions!

Lastly, my eternal thanks to the frontend developers that have completed excellent and considerate work that has enabled the inclusion of a wide range of improvements with this update.

Adds WCAG 2.2 to the applicable standards/guidelines table
Changes references to WCAG from 2.1 to 2.2 in the report section, including the link to the conformance requirements
Adds 2.2 reference to Level A criteria that were previously 2.1 only
Adds the two new Level A 2.2 only criteria, 3.2.6 Consistent Help and 3.3.7 Redundant Entry
Amends criterion 4.1.1 to show it applies for 2.0 and 2.0, and obsolete and removed for 2.2
Adds 2.2 reference to Level AA criteria that were previously 2.1 only
Adds four new level AA 2.2 only criteria - 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum), 2.5.7 Dragging Movements, 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum), and 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum)
Changes the WCAG reference to the correct standard and anchor link
- Changes the conformance level from Partially Supports to Supports
- Removes mentions of search results page and homepage having incidental collisions between content due to text spacing, no longer applies
- Removes mention of search results page being in old design, no longer applies

Changes conformance level to show that the criterion is automatically supported for WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, and is obsolete and removed for WCAG 2.2 and therefore doesn't apply
4.1.1 Parsing (A) is automatically supported in WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, and removed and obsolete for WCAG 2.2. Therefore, the references in 502.3.1 and 502.3.2 do not add any information about the conformance to the two provisions.
Changed to "rare exceptions" due to many data tables being provided in downloadable Excel format.

Looks GREAT, thanks for doing this!

One thing that occurs to me as I read through it is that we probably don't really need to say anymore that we've got multiple designs and are transferring content over. That work's done now except for the indices, so I reckon we can tighten the document up by just removing all references to old and new designs, and treating the indices whenever they appear as the special case that they now are.
